Bio

Helen Hooper’s fiction has appeared in American Short Fiction, The CommonThe Hopkins Review, Bellevue Literary Review, New South and elsewhere.  She was a 2011-2013 Stegner Fellow at Stanford University and a 2015 MacDowell fellow. She was the 2011 Peter Taylor fellow at the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop and has also been awarded residencies at Ucross Foundation, Ragdale Foundation and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.  She is now working on a novel set in northern Alabama and teaching literature classes at Politics and Prose bookstore in Washington, D.C.  Before turning to fiction writing she worked for twenty-five years as an environmental policy analyst and lobbyist. She lives in Arlington, Virginia and Wellfleet, Massachusetts.
