Helen Hooper is a 2011-2013 Stegner Fellow in fiction at Stanford University. She was also a Peter Taylor fellow at the 2011 Kenyon Review Writing Workshop.
Her stories have appeared in The Hopkins Review, New South, Bellevue Literary Review, and in the anthology Gravity Dancers: Even More Fiction from Washington Area Women. She has been a finalist in Glimmer Train and New Millennium contests and long-listed for the Fish Short Story Prize and has been awarded residencies at the Ucross Foundation, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and Ragdale.
Helen holds an MFA from Warren Wilson College and a BA from Johns Hopkins University. She worked for over twenty years in environmental policy, most recently for The Nature Conservancy. She has been an adjunct professor of English at Marymount University, a creative writing instructor at the Sitar Center for the Arts, and a member of the board of the D.C. Creative Writing Workshop.
